Tetrathlon Tetrathlon/Triathlon Coordinator: Kay Sparkes 07879 441479
Unsure what is involved in a triathlon/tetrathlon? Please see below for more details. Triathlon is one of the most sociable Pony Club events, so even if you aren't particularly sporty, please come along and have a go, or cheer on your friends from the sidelines!! Crewe & District Triathalon - 21st March 2009.
During the winter months to keep fit and maintain training for the
Tetrathlons there are Triathlons. These are interbranch competitions
and as the name suggests have 3 parts which are shooting, running and
swimming. Any members wanting information about these please contact Kay
Sparkes 07879 441479 or e-mail sparkes10@btinternet.com
Next Triathlon 29th November - West Lancashire PC
Fund Raising
The Triathlon is a great fundraiser for the club and therefore it is
important that we make this a very successful event. We will require helpers
for the Crewe and District Event next year so make a note in your diary and keep
the 21st March free.
Training
We are hoping to have a number of teams for this and would urge as many
members to come forward. We will plan in some training to start in the new year
which we can arrange around people's committments. Please let me know what you
want from this.
What is Tetrathlon?
What is Tetrathlon? - It
is a Pony Club competition combining Cross-Country riding with running,
shooting and swimming. It is open to boys and girls of all ages, in
teams or as individuals . Children under 9
years old throw bean bags into buckets instead of shooting (harder than
it sounds!).
During the winter months we run Triathlons
(shooting, swimming and running) which are open to all the family so
Mums and Dads can get their fair share of rosettes!
Of all the Pony Club disciplines, Tetrathlon is
probably the most sociable. Competitors from all branches will
encourage you to do your best, cheering you on from pool-side and on
the running course.
Shooting - Younger children can hold the gun in both hands, older children use just one. Ten shots are taken, with a maximum possible score of 1000. Even children too small to hold a gun can take part - by throwing bean bags into buckets instead. Running - A timed run is completed of either 1000 or 1500, or 3000m; the faster you run, the more points you get! Swimming - Each competitor swims for 2, 3, or 4mins depending on age, and points are given for the distance achieved. In tetrathlon only, there is a fourth phase: Riding - A cross-country course must be completed, with obstacles such as slip-rails and gates as well as jumps.
